Couples & Family Therapy

This is where the family sits together and discuss the various problematic situations. Searching for a practical solution to be in harmony and in a loving relationship as a family. If necessary, then persons are seen in individual sessions to solve problems that are applicable onto them as person. As soon this is solved then we go on with the family therapy. We can learn how to best love and support the people we care about. Love can be magical, and it can last if we look for the support and alternative than just giving up.

Gay Counselling

Gay counselling focuses on supporting gay men who are facing a specific difficulty or are feeling stuck (such as coming out of the closet). You may be feeling anxious, depressed or alone. Or you might feel overwhelmed, frustrated, afraid and lost.

Getting outside support from a gay counsellor can help you see what’s happening and help you understand yourself better. By revealing what’s keeping you from living your full potential, gay counselling can help you learn how to make healthier decisions, make goals a reality, and be more at peace with yourself.

Being gay is a privilege not a punishment.

 Fear of coming out/rejection.

  • Self acceptance.

  • Burnout.

Frequently Asked Questions

DO I NEED PSYCHOLOGICAL THERAPY?

Psychological therapy includes a number of psychotherapeutic approaches that can be helpful for a wide range of issues. You may feel anxious, depressed, stressed, irritable or angry. Perhaps you have financial, work or relationship-related difficulties. You may be troubled by past events or experiences. Sometimes people come to therapy aware of a particular issue they want to work on. Others may not feel sure.

Seeking therapy can be a daunting time, however a good therapist will help you to feel at ease and comfortable enough to talk about your concerns. It may be worth trying different counsellors to see what you feel most comfortable with. If you have any queries at all and would like to arrange a brief chat about therapy or the kinds of psychological therapy I offer, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

PHILOSOPHICAL APPROACH

Research shows the therapeutic alliance is a key component in successful therapy.  I believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship and aim to provide a safe, supportive space - working intuitively with individuals to explore, process and aid healing from difficulties. I aim to facilitate a nurturing base in which clients can experience authenticity, openness and honesty in order to help develop increased self-awareness, personal growth and a deeper sense of meaning, purpose and contentment. My approach is warm, attentive and always with integrity.

WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COUNSELLORS, PSYCHOTHERAPISTS AND PSYCHOLOGISTS?

It can be confusing to make sense of the different types of counselling or psychotherapy available. The difference lies in the kind of, and level of training, the therapeutic approach, types of skill and knowledge base.

I am a registered specialised counsellor in Pretoria that practice with the latest research to improve people’s lives and to make life for them easier and enjoyable. I am graduate in master’s in theology (M.Div.) and a Masters in Pastoral Family Therapy (M.A.) at the University of Pretoria. I am registered at the Counsel for Pastoral and Spiritual Counsellors (CPSC) as a Religious Specialist.

I am qualified to practice as a religious specialist from a religious point of view but can also work from a non-religious perspective if religion doesn’t play any role in a person’s life.

HOW LONG IS A SESSION?

Many counsellors offer a strict 60 minute session. I prefer to offer some flexibility depending on the content or process of what is being discussed in the session and most sessions last around 60 minutes.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

This really depends and can be discussed on an individual basis. Some people come to see a psychologist for a set goal to work on and may only desire or require a few, maybe as little as 6 sessions. Others benefit from ongoing psychotherapy and support, this may be months or years. I offer both short and long-term therapy. Length of therapy can be discussed from the outset.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
  • My fees for Counselling & Therapy in Pretoria are R750 per hour session. Zoom / Skype sessions are R750.
  • A 50% deposit (R350,00) is due / payable on booking with the balance of the fee payable prior to, or on the day of the session.
  • Only bookings with a paid deposit is taken as confirmed.
  • Payment is accepted cash or bank transfer.
